Nick Hughes qualified as a solicitor in 1984 and practised with two City firms until 1996 when he joined Williams Jeffrey Barber, a tax consultancy which provided advice to accountants and solicitors. After its merger into the Chiltern Group, Nick was appointed director in charge of the Trusts and Estate planning team. In 2007, Chiltern was acquired by BDO LLP where Nick was admitted as a partner within the private client department.  In 2011, Nick joined former colleagues and was a partner of Saffron Tax Partners prior to its merger with Charter Tax.

Nick has a wealth of experience gained throughout his 35+ year career, and brings to Charter Tax a pragmatic and sound legal mind. Nick advises UK and non-UK domiciliaries in relation to domicile and residence issues, trusts (both onshore and offshore trusts), tax, succession, and estate planning matters (including international estates with cross border issues).

Nick is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate practitioners and has lectured widely.

Nick enjoys spending time with his family, is a keen gardener and is still trying to improve his running times.
