Nicola King - Charter Tax

Client Manager Nicola King qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 2000 and, since then, has specialised in looking after the accounts and taxation affairs of owner managed businesses and private clients. She joined Charter Tax four years ago, having worked with Mark Howard previously and has developed a niche working with farms, landed estates and historic houses.

“Working within Private Clients gives you a chance to really understand the individuals and, more often than not, the whole family,” says Nicola. “This approach enables us to work closely with them to meet the family’s long term aims.”

Nicola says that Charter Tax stands out from its competitors due to the ‘wealth of knowledge’ in the firm’s tax specialists.

“Also, many of us have known each other a while, having worked together previously, before coming together at Charter Tax,” says adds.

A career in accountancy wasn’t an aspiration for Nicola while at school.

“However, university wasn’t for me,” she explains. “I wanted a profession where I could work and still get a degree level qualification and, being a bit of a maths geek, accountancy seemed the obvious choice!”

Nicola says that lockdown has, at times, been tricky, as she’s been home schooling a four year old and a nine year old but, other than that, ‘it’s very much been business as usual’.

“We have been advising clients on the different support options available from the government which some of my client base have been successful in claiming,” she adds.

When she’s not at work, Nicola is a keen photographer, regularly attending Tonbridge Camera Club. Since lockdown, she has discovered a creative streak and is currently learning the skills of paper quilling and creating pictures with oil pastels.
