Helping children access lessons

Charter Tax has responded to calls for spare screens to help children ‘attend’ their lessons remotely by donating four laptops to a local school. With the country in lockdown again and schools shut for the time being, pupils are expected log-on to their lessons during the day. This means that every child in a household needs personal access to a laptop, PC or tablet, which is proving a huge strain for many families.

As of 17 January, the government has delivered 801,524 laptops as part of its bid to get more than a million devices to schools and colleges during the Covid-19 crisis. Its calculations, says the BBC, are based on the number of children entitled to free school meals. However, according to Ofcom, between 1.1 million and 1.8 million children do not have access to a laptop, desktop or tablet at home, which suggests the government scheme may not be enough.

Here at Charter Tax, we ‘recycle’ our laptops when they’ve been in use for a certain amount of time and we had four which are still perfectly usable available. Associate at Charter Tax, Chris Page, delivered the laptops to his local school, Repton Manor Primary School in Ashford.
